Fans of old-school Beaujolais will adore the 2021 Fleurie Cuvée Tardive from the Clos de la Roilette. Bursting with aromas of crunchy red berries, peonies, spices and plums, it’s medium-bodied, ample and enveloping, with succulent acids, melting tannins and a pretty, perfumed finish. Despite the challenges of the year, the Coudert family have produced a lovely classic, and it’s a wine that’s much more drinkable and vibrant than some of the recent banner vintages at this address.

Aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries and fresh flowers follow through to a medium body, with juicy and round tannins that show a delicious intensity. Currants and berries. Fresh and focused. 78% merlot and 18% cabernet, the rest petit verdot. Drink after 2026.

The nose of this Gigondas immediately brings back nostalgic aromas of freshly baked berry pie. On the palate, it is energetic with fresh fruits and garrigue. The wine is lovely and enjoyable now with braised meats, or on its own. Editor's Choice.
