Tasting notes

Glistening ruby. An expressive bouquet displays mineral-accented red/blue fruit qualities, along with subtle white pepper and allspice flourishes. Juicy and penetrating in the mouth, offering bitter cherry, boysenberry and spicecake flavors that turn sweeter with aeration. Closes with bright, incisive thrust, slow-building tannins and persistent red berry and mineral qualities.
More about this wine
The Domaine Louis-Claude Desvignes Morgon La Voûte Saint-Vincent is the entry point to this esteemed estate, currently run by the eighth generation, siblings Louis-Benoît and Claude-Emmanuelle Desvignes, who practice certified organic farming. The wine is named for the vault (voûte) of the old family house and the patron saint of winemakers. Sourced from younger Gamay vines on sandy, granitic soils in the Douby climat (just north of the famous Côte du Py), it is vinified traditionally in concrete tanks to produce a Morgon style that is juicy, pure, and approachable, while still retaining the appellation's characteristic structure and depth. Grape Varietal 100% Gamay Region Morgon AOC, Beaujolais, Burgundy, France. Style Red - Fruity and Floral, with a medium-light body, bright acidity, and gentle, fine-grained tannins. It is made in a transparent, refreshing style with no oak aging to preserve the Gamay's pure fruit character. Color Intense, deep, youthful ruby red with a purple or violet disc. Aroma Aromatically lifted and expressive, often showing a suave perfume. Red & Black Fruit: Ripe red cherries, raspberries, and dark red/purple fruit notes. Floral: Delicate perfume of violet and rose petal. Spice & Earth: Subtle hints of orange rind, spice, and earthiness. Flavor The palate is round, crisp, and sapid (savory), driven by bright acidity. Fruit: Juicy, pure flavors of red cherry and tart red plum, with a lively intensity. Structure: Medium-light body with a refreshing, granite-derived minerality and enough grainy, light tannins to provide structure and linearity. Other Notes: A clean, slightly linear finish that promises to soften and open further with a couple of years in the bottle. Food Pairing Its vibrant fruit and balanced structure make it incredibly versatile, especially with lighter meats and savory dishes. Poultry: Roast chicken, duck confit, or turkey. Charcuterie/Pork: Ham on the bone, lard, terrine, hot *andouillettes*, or pork roast. Other: Veal, lasagna, or a wide array of cheeses like Camembert or Coulommiers. Overall The 2023 Desvignes Morgon La Voûte Saint-Vincent is an excellent value and a highly enjoyable expression of Morgon. It delivers the immediate, delicious fruit and floral intensity of Gamay, balanced by the firm, mineral-driven structure expected from a quality Cru Beaujolais. While it is drinkable now for its freshness, it also possesses the concentration to develop beautifully over the next 3 to 5 years.
