Tasting notes
Although this is packed with citrus, pear and white-peach aromas, it's so pure and straight that the simple description "fruity" would be far too one-sided to adequately describe what makes this wine stand out. So energetic that it feels much lighter than it really is (13% alcohol). Fine tannins at the finish underline the dry style.
More about this wine
The Trimbach Riesling Alsace 2022 is the classic, entry-level bottling from the Trimbach family, one of Alsace's most venerable and quality-focused producers, with roots dating back to 1626. The Trimbach house style is legendary for its commitment to bone-dry, pure, and structured wines, prioritizing minerality and aging potential over residual sweetness. The 2022 vintage, which was a warm and dry year, yielded a wine with excellent ripeness and fruit concentration while maintaining the trademark linear precision and vibrant acidity that makes this wine the "very definition of Alsace Riesling."
Grape Varietal
100% Riesling.
Region
Alsace AOC, France. The grapes are sourced from various top vineyards across the region, featuring marl, limestone, and sandstone soils.
Style
White - Dry (Bone-Dry), medium-bodied, taut, and mineral-driven. The wine is vinified in stainless steel and concrete tanks without malolactic fermentation to preserve its natural acidity, freshness, and precise character.
Color
Pale straw yellow to a light gold with brilliant, sometimes green, reflections.
Aroma
A complex and evolving bouquet that balances youthful fruit with the grape’s inherent savory and mineral qualities.
Primary Fruit: Ripe citrus (lemon zest, grapefruit), crisp green apple, and white peach/pear.
Non-Fruit: Distinct mineral notes of chalk, flint, and wet stone. With air, subtle hints of white flowers, honey, and the classic, age-related "petrol" note may emerge.
Flavor
The palate is defined by its vibrant, high-voltage acidity which is beautifully counterbalanced by the ripeness and depth of the 2022 fruit. It is clean, focused, and savory.
Key Flavors: Intense lemon and lime, green plum, crisp pear, and a backbone of strong minerality. The finish is long, energetic, and often noted for its fine, saline (salty) quality.
Structure: Medium-bodied, high acidity, and perfectly dry.
Food Pairing
This wine’s high acidity and dry profile make it incredibly versatile and a perfect food wine, particularly with dishes that feature richness or spice.
Classic Alsatian: Sauerkraut, pork dishes (smoked or in white wine sauces).
Seafood: Grilled or marinated white fish, shellfish, prawns, oysters, sushi, and sashimi.
Spicy/Asian Cuisine: Thai or Vietnamese dishes with a touch of sweetness or heat.
Cheese: Goat cheese, or medium-firm, washed-rind cheeses.
Overall
The Trimbach Riesling 2022 is an excellent representation of the house's signature style: purity, balance, and linearity. Despite the warmth of the vintage, the wine maintains its legendary tension and is a remarkable entry-level bottling that offers complexity and serious structure. It is enjoyable now for its invigorating freshness but has the inherent acidity and mineral depth to age gracefully for a decade or more.
