Bright straw-gold. Delicate but enticing aromas of pineapple, marzipan, sweet spices and grapefruit nectar, plus a touch of smoky grilled nuts that complements rather than overwhelms the wine. Suave and complex, this showcases lovely balance and a captivating sweet-sour quality on the long, floral finish. Made with 50% bought grapes, this GewĂĽrz offers an uncanny combination of richness and delicacy; the note of grilled nuts on the back end is typical of the warm year.

Although this is packed with citrus, pear and white-peach aromas, it's so pure and straight that the simple description "fruity" would be far too one-sided to adequately describe what makes this wine stand out. So energetic that it feels much lighter than it really is (13% alcohol). Fine tannins at the finish underline the dry style.

Both flinty reduction and rose notes play on the nose. The palate comes in with concentration and a pithy, phenolic texture that lends structure and backbone to this rich, rounded, almost oily but dry wine. Pleasant citrus-pith bitterness sits well with the bold, warm but dry generosity. It’s best to let this come into its own. Drink 2025–2035.

The 2021 Chablis Sainte Claire was showing a little too much SO2 on the nose, although there seems to be decent fruit tucked behind. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, quite tensile and steely with a precise finish that deserves a round of applause. This is well-crafted.

The 2018 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru was picked at 58hl/ha and spent 18 months in stainless steel except for just 7% aged for 9 months in oak barrels. It offers attractive, slightly waxy aromas on the nose that give way to orange blossom and apple peel with aeration. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, and just a dab of ginger on the entry that actually resurfaces toward the finish. This is a pretty and well-executed Vaillons.
